Pathways is hiring a Human Factors Engineer to support program management office projects for a portfolio of work focused on healthcare digital services, communications, and training.

Job Purpose: We are seeking a Human Factors Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. In this role you will design products, systems, and environments to improve how people interact with them. You will apply your knowledge of human behavior and capabilities to make products and systems safer, more efficient, and more effective. 

You will focus on enhancing the interaction between systems and human users to optimize usability, performance, and user satisfaction, often possessing expertise in ergonomics, cognitive psychology, and systems engineering. Your technical expertise will inform the entire matrixed, cross-functional teams and managing activities to deliver positive end-user experiences in patient homes, and community locations.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement human performance research, investigation, or analysis protocols.
  • Assess the user interface or usability characteristics of physical and/or software-based systems, enhancing and modifying those designs as necessary.
  • Must be able to utilize ergonomic principles to optimize usability, cost, quality, safety, or performance.
  • Research and design user interfaces to meet customer requirements.
  •  Perform user-focused testing and designing of the system to enhance the user's experience.
  • Ensure ergonomic principles are used to optimize usability, cost, quality, safety, and performance, and are appropriately utilized across teams.
  • Design intuitive interfaces and ensure compliance with human factors standards. 
  • Advocate for end-user needs in collaboration with other professionals. 
  • Collect data through observation, interviews, or surveys. 
  • Provide technical support to clients. 
  • Stay current with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in human-centered design and user experience design.
  • Perform other duties that may arise within the scope of the task order.

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields, such as industrial or systems engineering, psychology, computer science, or computer science & engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of human factors engineering concepts, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross- functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Proven experience leading user research and applying insights to inform design decisions.
  • Demonstrated team management and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Master's Degree with 5+ years of experience or PhD in a relevant field, such as industrial or systems engineering, psychology, computer science, or computer science & engineering

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.

Travel: depending on client requirements, expect up to 15% travel time for the position.

Compensation:

Pathways offers a comprehensive benefits package including but not limited to health, medical, dental, vision, and 401k.

The compensation range for this position is $85,000.00 - $185,000.00. Exceptions based on experience and education.
